7. INCOME TAXES The Company’s effective income tax rate for the three- and six-months ended June 30, 2020 was 0.1% and (0.8%), respectively, compared to an effective income tax rate of (16.5%) and (12.2%) for the corresponding prior-year periods. The Company’s tax rate differs from the statutory rate of 21.0% primarily due to the effects of valuation allowances against net deferred tax assets, as well as certain permanent item differences between tax and financial reporting purposes. On March 18, 2020, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (the “FFCR Act”), and on March 27, 2020, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (the “CARES Act”) were each enacted in response to COVID-19. The FFCR Act and the CARES Act contain numerous income tax provisions, such as relaxing limitations on the deductibility of interest and the use of net operating losses arising in taxable years beginning after December 31, 2017; however, these benefits do not impact the Company’s current tax provision. |
